Near CSU: move-out week without the curb pile
Every May the streets around Colorado State University fill with furniture that did not fit in the car. Planning the exit a few weeks early beats a scramble on the last morning of the lease.
Residence hall move-out
CSU Housing & Dining Services set 2026 residence hall move-out for the week of May 11, with residents out by 10 a.m. on Friday, May 15, according to its move-out page retrieved September 27, 2026. Donation trucks stood at ten spots around the halls from May 13 to 15, collecting for ChairTableHome, Crossroads Safehouse, the CSU Pantry, Goodwill, Homeward Alliance and the Salvation Army. The donation program dates to 2009.
Off-campus rentals
The City’s contracted curbside program covers houses and buildings of seven or fewer units; larger apartment buildings and homes on dumpsters sit outside it, per the City’s curbside page. The City’s furniture guidance says apartment dumpsters are meant for everyday waste, furniture never goes in them, and complexes are charged extra when it does.
Renters in a house on the contracted service may be able to use that account’s two free bulk items for small pieces. Ask the landlord who holds the account before scheduling anything.
Share the truck
Housemates leaving together can split one load instead of booking three. Put everything that is going in one room, label it, and agree who signs off on the final list, so nobody’s desk disappears by mistake.

Can I put a couch in my apartment’s dumpster?
No. The City’s guidance says never to put furniture in a dumpster, even at an apartment complex, and complexes are charged extra when it ends up in theirs.
