Wellington: a new landfill up the road
Wellington sits where I-25 meets Highway 1 in the northeast corner of Larimer County, and since August 2026 the county’s newest landfill has been its neighbor.
The North Landfill
Larimer County’s North Landfill at 15669 North County Road 9 opened on August 3, 2026 for commercial haulers and for residents within about 10 miles, including Livermore, Red Feather Lakes, Carr and Waverly. The county’s progress page asks those residents to bring proof of residency, such as a driver’s license or a utility bill showing their ZIP code.
Who takes the trash
The town’s utilities and trash page, retrieved September 27, 2026, lists private companies rather than a town service: Dumpster Diverz, Republic Services and Waste Management. Ask your own hauler whether it collects bulky items and what it charges. The town’s own description places it between Denver and Cheyenne at an elevation of 5,201 feet.
Clean-up day and code
This year’s Town Clean-Up on Saturday, June 20 was free for residents and took up to 3 cubic yards of trash, about one level pickup bed, while refusing electronics, appliances, large furniture, tires and hazardous materials. Those leftovers still need a plan. The town’s neighborhood services rules say lumber, junk, debris and appliances may not be stored outdoors.
