Northern Colorado notes
Windsor: private haulers and a town study
Windsor has no town trash service. Residents choose among private haulers, and in 2026 the town began asking whether that should change.
A town weighing its options
In February 2026 the town hired Burns & McDonnell to study residential solid waste, noting that five private haulers operate within town limits and that heavy trucks wear down its streets. The study compares a single-hauler model with the current setup and ends in a presentation to the Town Board. The town’s recycling page says it does not provide municipal recycling either.
Spring Clean-Up Days
This year’s Spring Clean Up Days ran May 15 and 16 at the Public Services Campus, 922 N. 15th St., for Windsor Water Utility customers with a voucher or ID. They took yard waste, up to four rimless vehicle tires per voucher, stoves, washers, dryers and similar appliances, and many electronics. They refused refrigerators and other Freon appliances, hazardous waste, propane tanks and construction debris.
A county line through town
The town’s list of outside utility providers separates services for Windsor residents living in Larimer County, a reminder that the town crosses a county line. Which county you live in can decide which disposal sites and county programs apply, so check before a self-haul. All three pages were checked September 27, 2026.
Before you decide
Questions worth asking
Does Windsor collect trash?
No. The town says it does not provide municipal recycling, five private haulers operate in town limits, and a 2026 study is looking at alternatives.
Did Windsor’s clean-up days take refrigerators?
No. Refrigerators and other appliances containing freon were on the list of items the event could not accept.
